International Competition for String Quartets at the Orff-Center Munich – for promotion of young ensembles

The international competition for string quartets is a project by the Diogenes Quartet as part of the NEUSTART KULTUR initiative of the Federal Commissioner for Culture and the Media in cooperation with the Orff-Center in Munich.

Who, when and where:
The competition is aimed at young string quartets who have not yet exceeded the age of 120 on June 14th, 2023 and will take place from 14th – 15th of June 2023 in the Orff-Center at Kaulbachstrasse 16 in Munich. The exact schedule will follow in the near run-up to the competition on this page.

Competition program:
The program should not exceed 60 minutes and must contain one of the two quartet movements by Carl Orff, a string quartet of your choice from the Viennese Classic and a work by a composer with a connection to Carl Orff (with a brief explanation in the application).

Prizes:
1st prize: 3,000 euros
(and additionally two honored concerts together with the Diogenes Quartet)
2nd prize: 2,000 euros
3rd prize: 1,000 euros
and a special prize from the Orff-Center in Munich

The program includes parts of the competition program as well as the string octet op. 5 by Reinhold Glière together with the Diogenes Quartet.

Jury:
The jury consists of three renowned artists from the chamber music scene and a member of the Diogenes Quartet.
